Rare Show of Solidarity at 16U IBAF Championship in Mexico

Lausanne, Switzerland - The IBAF 16 and Under World Championship is about to get under way in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico, commencing August 19th through August 28th.

The event will feature 11 teams, with Group A consisting of the USA, the hosts Mexico, Brazil, Chinese Taipei and Australia, while Group B will include Cuba, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Japan, Indonesia and the Netherlands.

For team Japan, the tournament is an opportunity to support the efforts at home in Japan post Fukushima. In conjunction with other facets of domestic Japanese baseball including NPB, the team will wear a "United We Stand" sticker on the batting helmets during the tournament to show solidarity and promote awareness.

The IBAF is also fully supporting this endeavour, and has asked other teams in the event to place the supportive sticker on their batting helmets.

(Note: President Eiji Hatta of BFJ thanked IBAF President Riccardo Fraccari for the support and encouragement.)
