A team consisting of Korean students has advanced to the quarterfinal of Japan’s national high school baseball tournament for the first time.
Kyoto International High School beat Nishogakusha High School of Tokyo 6-4 in the Round of 16 of the summer national high school baseball tournament held at Koshien Stadium near Kobe in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture on Tuesday.
It marks the first time a foreign school has reached the quarterfinal of the biannual tournament, better known as Koshien. The ongoing tournament includes three-thousand-603 high schools across Japan.
The school, which was formerly a South Korean educational institution, also advanced to the Koshien in March, becoming the first foreign school in Japan to do so. It was knocked out in the Round of 16 in the spring event.
