Philippines win Title at Baseball Tournament of 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia
Sunday, November 20
The Philippines have captured the championship at the baseball tournament during the 2011 South East Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the Gold Medal Game on Sunday they defeated host Indonesia 2-0 in a close game.
Runs by Ruben Angeles and Fulgencio Rances Jr. in the sixth and eighth innings decided the outcome in a pitcher’s duel between the two rivals.
Darwin Dela Calzada dominated on the mound, allowing just four hits and a pair of walks in nine dominant innings. Ahmad Effendi and Akbar Kamaluddin did their best to keep Indonesia in the game, but couldn’t stop the Philippines from scoring eventually.
Thailand finished in third place in the tournament, having defeated Vietnam 12-4 on Saturday. Malaysia ended up with the fifth position in the final standings.
