Asian ex-Dodgers to run former Dodgertown
ST PETERSBURG
Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers Hideo Nomo of Japan and Park Chan Ho of South Korea have joined forces to renovate the former “Dodgertown” spring training facility in Florida.
With former Dodgers owner Peter O’Malley serving as chief executive and U.S. minor league baseball officials operating the complex, ex-Major League Baseball standouts Park and Nomo will now help operate the Vero Beach Sports Village.
“I have many fond memories of Dodgertown from my nine seasons playing for the Dodgers,” Park said. “I look forward to seeing many teams and individuals enjoy the unique features of the complex as I did when I trained and played there.”
The facility will be used for U.S. and international sports programs. Nomo has brought Japanese youth teams to America the past two years for training, games and cultural exchanges.
“Being a part of the group that will operate a facility that provides youths with resources they can use both on and off the field is extremely rewarding,” Nomo said.
“Those who come to the facility can improve not only as athletes through tournaments and training, but can also develop skills to help them mature into young men and women.”
